Program Overview
This new developed program will give students an introduction to thinking and working geographically using Penrith Lakes Floodplain as their case study.
Students will engage in multiple hands on activities to investigate the geographical inquiry questions.

Note: Program will contribute 4.5 hours of mandatory fieldwork

Program Activities
Introduction to Penrith Lakes and use local maps, a geographical tool
Recess
Tour of the area to observe the floodplain and the associated geographical terms
Identifying, collecting and recording geographical data including dipnetting and bird observations.
Lunch
Synthesise and interpret fieldwork data incorporating the key syllabus outcomes

- GE-11-02 - Explains geographical processes and influences, at a local scale, that form and transform places and the environment
- GE -11-05 - Analyses and synthesizes relevant geographical information from a variety of sources.
- GE -11-06 - Identifies geographical methods used in geographical inquiry and their relevance in the contemporary world.

- GE-11-08 - Applies mathematical idea and techniques to analyse geographical data.

Key Content
The program formulates geographical questions for investigation
- Geographic inquiry addresses three main questions - What is it? Where is it? Why is it there?
- A fourth question has been suggested in recent times: Why care? This relates to sustainability concerns.
