Kitchen Garden Program
"Empowering for Life"
Our Vision & Purpose
At Penrith Lakes Environmental Education Centre (PLEEC), our vision is simple yet powerful:
To see every student engaged and achieving educational, wellbeing, and sustainability outcomes through a curriculum-embedded Kitchen Gardens program—valued by schools and their wider communities.
We believe that when students connect deeply with food, nature, and each other, they develop life-long skills for healthier, more sustainable living.
What is the Kitchen Gardens Program?
Our Kitchen Gardens program provides hands-on learning through weekly, one-hour cooking and gardening lessons—designed for up to four classes per day.
Students participate in real-life, practical activities that are embedded in the school curriculum and aligned across multiple Key Learning Areas (KLAs). Lessons are carefully sequenced to support:
- Educational achievement
- Wellbeing and healthy habits
- Environmental awareness and stewardship
Beyond practical skills, students also build their communication, problem-solving, teamwork, and critical thinking abilities.
This isn’t just gardening and cooking—it’s about growing capable, confident, and connected learners.
Why It Matters
*“All the research is pointing to the two biggest factors that will determine how long you live and the quality of your life:
-
What you eat.
-
The quality of your relationships.”*— Dr Michael Mosley, 2019
Our program brings both of those factors into focus:
- Healthy eating through garden-to-plate experiences
- Stronger relationships through collaboration and shared learning
Together, we’re planting the seeds for a lifetime of wellbeing.
Authentic Learning. Healthy People. Flourishing Environment.
